Philonotion: Hidden Gems of South American Aroid

Philonotion is a small genus of rhizomatous terrestrial herbs in the Araceae family, comprising three species native to tropical South America. Placed in the tribe Philonotieae based on plastid DNA phylogenies, these neotropical aroids bear solitary cordate leaves and inflorescences of a terminal spadix subtended by a tubular spath.
