Pichinia: Borneo’s Limestone Aroid
Pichinia is a monotypic genus in the Araceae family, represented by the single species Pichinia disticha, endemic to karst limestone outcrops in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo.
It is characterized by a creeping stem bearing distichously arranged leaves, each module with persistent prophylls and cataphylls, adaptations that enable it to thrive as a lithophytic mesophyte on rocky substrates.
