Schismatoglottis: Tropical Understorey Gems
Schismatoglottis is a genus of more than 250 species of small, stolon-forming herbs in the Araceae family, native to ever-wet lowland and lower montane forests from Southeast Asia through New Guinea to Vanuatu.
Members bear non-aromatic, heart-shaped leaves and modest inflorescences, superficially resembling Homalomena yet distinguished by unique ecological traits such as the fully aquatic habit of S. prietoi in Philippine rivers.
