Stylochaeton is a small genus of about 19 perennial aroids native to tropical and subtropical regions of sub-Saharan Africa, characterized by underground, seasonally dormant rhizomes and hastate (spear-shaped) leaves that emerge above ground with inflorescences developing at or below soil level. Flowering is infrequent, and this genus is the sole member of the tribe Stylochaetoneae within Araceae.
